Avail Media, a provider of managed content aggregation services, is working with Motorola to deliver MPEG-4 Wide Area Video Entertainment (MWAVE) technology and services to allow IPTV service providers to launch new entertainment channels over high-speed data networks.

Service providers use MWAVE to distribute Avail Media’s 200 SD and 20 HD channels, enabling operators to quickly launch a suite of TV services without the capital expense and time constraints of building a complete video headend.

Avail Media’s service is combined with different elements of Motorola’s IPTV product portfolio, including set-top boxes, encoders, systems integration services and program management for video hub administrative activities, such as third-party middleware and digital rights management software.

Jon Romm, COO of Avail Media, said the company has secured transport rights to many of the most popular channels and has established a national video processing facility in Reston, VA, for program distribution to Motorola subscribers.

MWAVE brings together all the elements required to launch competitive IPTV entertainment services to end customers. AVC H.265 (MPEG-4) compressed content distribution is provided via Avail Media’s Avail Connect service, which originates at Avail Media’s headend uplinks in Hagerstown, MD, and Toronto.

Service providers adopting MWAVE need only to construct their local video hub offices where local content, such as off-air channels, public, educational and government (PEG) channels and emergency alert services, are merged with the supplied national linear channels to construct a comprehensive channel lineup.
