The DVStorIP-Gen is used for the evaluation, compliance testing and verification of networks and associated equipment

Pixelmetrix, a maker of preventive monitoring equipment, has added the capability of dropping a single I, B or P frame from the MPEG stream with its DVStorIP-Gen device.

The DVStorIP-Gen is a tool for the evaluation, compliance testing and verification of networks, monitoring and equipment analysis. It supports SPTS and MPTS generation, including UDP and RTP streaming. Each generated transport stream can be forwarded to up to 100 target IP destinations, identified by the IP address and port number.

The introduction of the packet reordering shows the true behavior of IP networks. IP networks are designed to allow packets to reach the receiver as packets coming in a random order where they are properly assembled, not as a continuous, ordered stream.

With the ability to drop frames, the device can be used for lab testing, enabling set top box makers greater visibility of real-world performance.

With the DVStorIP-Gen, operators can observe error-free streaming through the restamping of continuity count and insertion of a PCR discontinuity flag during transport stream loopback.
