Looking to provide end-to-end IPTV solutions and video delivery systems to communication carriers, NEC will launch a new business division targeted at IPTV providers with what it calls high-profile next-generation network (NGN) carrier applications. This initiative will include the introduction at the NAB Show of a video-on-demand server as the core system of these new IPTV solutions.

The company predicts the new division will generate sales of about $500 million by 2010. Leveraging its NGN experience with broadcasting technology, NEC is targeting new business in the U.S. and international marketplaces.

The company intends to take several steps to advance its IPTV goals, including the delivery of end-to-end IPTV solutions using NEC products, from network architecture to delivery servers and household terminals; introducing the new NC7500-VD VOD video delivery server in April; and the adoption of CASCADE’s QualiTVision middleware, used for IPTV deployments in Hong Kong and Thailand, across its product line.
