Globecomm Systems is demonstrating a range of technologies it says are designed to “future-proof” TV distribution systems.

Mixing available products with glimpses of possible future technologies, the satellite provider will exhibit, for example, middleware capable of delivering both IPTV and Internet video to the same set-top box (STB). That demonstration entails what Globecomm calls “an off-the-shelf STB modified by Globecomm to deliver capabilities expected from the next generation of STBs.”

Using Inlet Technologies' Spinnaker streaming system and new encoding techniques, Globecomm will also demonstrate the simultaneous delivery of video to a TV, PC and mobile devices.

“Working with Inlet Technologies, we believe we are delivering one of the world's best video quality to Internet and handheld devices,” Tom Parish, Globecomm’s VP of broadcast technologies, said in a prepared statement. “For IPTV, we believe in an open standard-based solution that seamlessly merges IPTV with fast-growing Internet-direct video content.”
