Norway-based Appear TV, a global provider of next-generation headends for broadcast and IP television, launched a software-based redundancy provisioning that automatically maximizes service levels in IP networks. Dubbed “always on,” the module is a seamless integration between broadcast equipment and IP networks, designed to increase reliability of service while decreasing the amount of operating resources.
According to the company, this is the only software in the IPTV market to take a holistic view of operation and network management — simplifying the process by automating it. The software, designed to fit in existing IP cards at the headend level, includes automatic backup in the case of service stream failure anywhere on the operator’s network without requiring complex control software running on separate servers. As a redundant solution, the “always on” software handles failures on both inputs and outputs.
